ToF LiDARTypical Applications

The RPLIDAR S Series and C Series are based on the time-of-flight ranging principle and are designed for mobile robots and automated systems with higher requirements for sensing stability, environmental adaptability, and operating range. As high-performance TOF LiDAR solutions, they are widely used in applications that demand reliable perception under complex conditions.
In mobile robot applications, TOF LiDAR is commonly used for service robot obstacle avoidance and navigation, AGV obstacle detection and avoidance, as well as environment perception for low-speed autonomous vehicles. In environments with significant lighting variations or open spaces, TOF-based ranging provides more stable distance data, improving the overall reliability of mobile robot systems during continuous operation.
Beyond typical mobile use cases, TOF LiDAR is also widely applied in multi-point touch detection and touchscreen interaction systems. By continuously scanning the forward area, the sensor can detect the approach, presence, and movement of people or objects, providing a stable spatial perception foundation for touchscreen interaction, large interactive displays, and intelligent devices.
In terms of product selection, the RPLIDAR S Series places greater emphasis on performance and environmental adaptability, making it suitable for projects with complex lighting conditions, longer sensing distances, or higher stability requirements. The RPLIDAR C Series, while retaining the advantages of TOF LiDAR technology, focuses more on cost efficiency and is well suited for applications that seek to enhance perception performance within a controlled budget.

ToF LiDARFAQ

Under complex lighting conditions or in applications requiring long-distance measurement, TOF LiDAR can provide more stable and reliable distance data. Compared with other ranging principles, TOF LiDAR is less sensitive to ambient light interference and can maintain higher measurement accuracy over longer distances. For robots that need to operate in environments with variable lighting or large-scale spaces, using TOF LiDAR significantly improves the reliability of navigation and obstacle avoidance.

Under standard operating conditions, RPLIDAR is designed to support approximately five years of continuous operation (24/7). Its structural design and opto-magnetic approach help reduce mechanical wear and support long-term stable performance.

The RPLIDAR S Series is a high-performance TOF LiDAR with lower sensitivity to ambient light interference and higher ranging accuracy, suitable for projects with complex environments or variable lighting conditions, such as semi-outdoor applications. The C Series is a cost-effective TOF LiDAR, better suited for indoor projects with stable lighting and budget constraints. Both series offer similar system integration and basic navigation capabilities, but differ in performance and environmental adaptability, allowing selection based on specific project requirements.

SLAMTEC's TOF LiDAR offers two communication interfaces depending on the model and application requirements: serial and Ethernet. The serial interface is suitable for embedded or space-constrained robotic systems, allowing for straightforward integration. The Ethernet interface is designed for applications that demand higher data transmission stability and system scalability, such as industrial PCs or networked systems. Users can choose the appropriate interface based on the main control platform and system architecture.

SLAMTEC's LiDAR products meet the compliance requirements of many common overseas markets, including CE, FCC, and KC, and are suitable for projects targeting the European, North American, and some Asian markets. Please contact us for specific certification details.
